Postmyocardial infarction education is effective but not enough on its own

چکیده
Giannopoulos et al 1 report that delivering a stand-alone educational programme following myocardial infraction (MI) reduces the risk of cardiovascular events. This single-centre trial, based in university hospital Athens, randomised 329 postmyocardial patients to either an 8-week structured education plus usual care (intervention) or (control). The authors reported intervention consisted 10 hours contact on factor management, lifestyle and drugs, delivered by non-healthcare personnel with interactive patient sessions, aimed at enhancing adherence change treatment compliance. At mean follow-up 17 months, HR for primary composite outcome (all-cause death, MI, stroke hospitalisation) 0.48 (95% CI 0.32 0.73) major adverse cerebrovascular event 0.49 (0.27 0.28). With similar mortality both groups, improvements were driven reduced rates non-fatal events compared control: MI (13 vs 22), (2 7) hospitalisation (14 22). What is mechanistic basis this improvement events? As noted authors, factors likely be key explanation. Greater changes …

Growth Is Good, but Is Not Enough to Improve Nutrition
While it is generally agreed that growth is a necessary precondition for reducing poverty, relatively little is known about the relationship between economic growth and nutrition and, hence, how economic policies can be leveraged to improve nutrition. This chapter argues that growth is good, but is not enough to improve nutrition. During the early stages of development, growth helps reduce the ...

Models of the untyped λ-calculus may be defined either as applicative structures satisfying a bunch of first order axioms, known as “λ-models”, or as (structures arising from) any reflexive object in a cartesian closed category (ccc, for brevity). These notions are tightly linked in the sense that: given a λ-model A, one may define a ccc in which A (the carrier set) is a reflexive object; conve...
متن کاملWhen Enough Is Not Enough
People are often exposed to more information than they can actually remember. Despite this frequent form of information overload, little is known about how much information people choose to remember. Using a novel “stop” paradigm, the current research examined whether and how people choose to stop receiving new—possibly overwhelming—information with the intent to maximize memory performance. Pa...

The most recent European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines recommend primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) as the preferred treatment for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) whenever it is available within 90–120 min of the first medical contact [1]. However, timing of symptom onset appears to be hard to adjudicate precisely, and 'ischaemic time' thereby usually e...
متن کاملPostmyocardial infarction syndrome.
A new syndrome that is likely to follow myocardial infaretion has recently been described. The cardinal manifestations of this syndrome may easily be confused with other, more common sequels of myocardial infaretion, including cardiac failure, further infarction of the myocardium, and pulmonary embolism. The result of such confusion may be inappropriate therapy. This paper reviews the recent li...
